Our Approach

FOR believes in one's self-determination and self-efficacy. So our approach is community-based and client-focused. We build our programs on evidence and strengths available in the region, drive them with coordinating efforts, and keep the client's needs and progress in sight.

In all our efforts, the goal is always clear: to facilitate the progress and support the success of those ready to take responsibility, but lacking in means. For those veterans with the will, we'll help find a way.

Incarcerated Veteran Transition Program (IVTP)

Funded by the Department of Labor, IVTP finds permanent employment for institutionalized veterans who are at risk of homelessness. Please contact our office for more information or to register.


Group Classes

We offer a number of weekly group classes on topics ranging from Computer Literacy and Early Recovery Skills to Relapse Prevention. Please click here for the schedule.

FOR is also the facilitator of the VetLink and Veterans' Work Group, linking veterans to local resources that help support their journey to economic mobility.

VetLink, a subcommittee of the Greater Richmond Continuum of Care (GRCoC) Coordinated Entry Committee, consists of staff from multiple agencies directly working with veterans experiencing homelessness.

VetLink case conferencing reviews veterans' cases for better coordination of services. Conferencing provides individual attention and conversation, while maintaining a uniform, transparent process. The process is person-centric, not program-centric (that is, the end result will not always be rapid rehousing or permanent supportive housing placement, but rather matches a person to the appropriate housing resource).

VetLink aligns with GRCoC guiding principles and characteristics:
1. Transparency; 2. Evidence-Based & Data-Driven; 3. Strengths-Based & Client-Focused; 4. Easily Accessible; 5. Housing-Focused; and 6. Continually Improving.

The Veterans' Work Group is comprised of the directors of partner agencies. The Group shares these values and utilizes them to set policies and procedures for community collaborations which support vets in finding and creating meaningful work that leads to economic mobility.
